At Riter Aviation, we are able to process M1 student visa and TSA requirements if needed.  Training can be done under Part 141 or Part 61 depending upon your training requirements. Our location in Los Angeles, California provides for one of the best training areas in the world. Within one training flight you will be able to fly into several busy airports, and learn how to function within one of the world’s most congested airspaces.

About Our Flight Training Instructor

Chief Pilot Robert Riter is the company’s main instructor. His Mission for Riter Aviation is: “As the Chief Flight Instructor, it is my responsibility to ensure that you receive the proper instruction, while you learn at your own pace, and that the aircraft used for training you are the best possible. We control all aspects of our flight training and instruction, including the maintenance of the aircraft we use. This is not done at the bigger flight schools where profit is their main focus, and student success is often last.”

Chief Pilot Robert Riter’s qualifications are the following:

  • FAA Gold Seal instructor
  • 20 years of teaching experience
  • Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic degree certificate
  • Inspection Authorization

Aircraft Used For Training

The planes used during instruction are owned and maintained by the company. When learning the aircraft systems, the plane will be opened for inspection, and you will be given actual hands-on experience rather than simply looking at and studying a textbook. Riter aviation uses a well-maintained Cessna 172 for single-engine training and a well-maintained Beechcraft Duchess for Multi-engine students.

Course of Instruction / Ratings

The first rating/course is the Private Pilot Rating. This is done in our Cessna 172, which has state of the art radios and custom interior. This rating usually requires approximately 80 hours of flight time and 40 hours of ground time to successfully complete.  To earn your rating depends upon when you develop the flight skills, and not necessarily upon how many hours you have flown. Any school that guarantees you a rating after a set amount of hours is probably not going to provide you the quality instruction needed for you to obtain a flying position in the future.

The second rating is the Instrument Rating, which teaches you how flight operations are conducted.  This allows you to fly into weather and how to precisely control the aircraft.  The standard flight training for this rating is approximately 60 flight hours and 30 hours of ground instruction. This training is also conducted in our Cessna 172.

The third rating is the Commercial Pilot Rating. The training for this rating is conducted in the Multi-engine Duchess and is usually completed in approximately 20 hours.  During this training, you will learn how to fly the plane to transport passengers, and deal effectively with weather, system malfunctions, and government regulations.

Advanced Corporate Flight Training

Upon successful completion of your flight training, we are able to place you with various corporate flying departments.  During this phase of your training, you can work with corporate pilots flying cabin class twins. You will have a mentor to help you finally put all of your training together and obtain actual corporate flying experience. These trips will take you all over the United States and give you the confidence to do well when interviewing for a pilot position.

Certified Flight Instructor Ratings

We offer training in all the Flight Instructor ratings. The initial Flight Instructor rating usually takes approximately 20 hours of flight instruction, and 50 hours of ground instruction.  The addition of the other flight instructor ratings takes approximately 20 hours of flight instruction and 20 hours of ground instruction. The three flight instructor ratings are:

  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) for single engine land,
  • Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) for single engine land,
  • Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) for multi-engine land.

Compare Our Quality Flight Training With Others

Instructor Flight Experience ~ When conducting your research for your flight school, be sure to ask about the flight experience of your instructor, and also ask the school if they even know who your instructor will be. Most instruction at other flight schools is given by young pilots who are still learning themselves. This causes many problems that often include teaching you improper flying habits and techniques that are sometimes impossible to correct. At Riter Aviation, the Chief Pilot/instructor comes with 20 years experience, is a certified FAA Gold Seal Instructor and has taught numerous students to fly from all over the world.

Aircraft Used for Training ~ Ask other flight schools also about the maintenance of the aircraft that you’ll be using for your training. Most flight schools neither conduct their own maintenance, nor do they own the planes they use. This leads to relying on aircraft that often have several maintenance problems, which will delay your training. At Riter Aviation, we own and maintain our own planes. We control and monitor our planes so that you only have to concentrate on your training.

Additional Customer Service  ~  At Riter Aviation, we will pick you up at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and provide all necessary transportation to and from the airport. Upon request, we can provide housing and transportation assistance as well.  For relaxation and entertainment we have sailing, bike riding, horseback riding, museums, aquariums, and amusement parks such as Disneyland within easy driving time. We can assist you with all of your arrangements. Ask other flight schools if they provide the same.

At Riter Aviation, the Chief Pilot will personally train you, help you with all your arrangements,  and ensure your training is thorough and the best it can be, whether you are preparing for a career in aviation or simply want the satisfaction of fulfilling your dream to become a pilot.
